Just a quick look at Sheria Ngowi new SS 2014 AfroWest collection realesed this past weekend in New York during New York Fashion Week, hosted by TAB NYC, a premier Luxury Fashion & Beauty Collective. It was a great honor to work with Sheria and the rest of the designers showcased at TAB ( will post pictures here soon). I must say, Mr. Ngowi is def going places. All the pieces from his latest collection were well tailored. I really appreciate his workmanship, the amount of time and money invested in his craft. When NY industry insiders come running back stage to praise you after the show for a great collection, it means you are on the right path. Very proud of him.
New York Fashion Week for me is all about working. This season my schedule was a bit busy working with designers consulting and styling the new Spring / Summer 2014 collections. Sophie Zinga is one of the designers I got a chance to work with this season. Her new SS 2014 collection was inspired by ornate delicacy and velvet texture of rose. With Malian tie-dye techniques using dual coloring, carefully applied on delicate French Alencon lace. Including a broad array of textures, enhanced by pleating on crinkled silk chiffon, sateen cotton and silk faille fabrics.
Zinga adds a greater depth to the delicate pieces featuring: white guipure lace, recalling the brand's minimalist and romantic point of view. Carefully reinventing the brand's signature cocktail dress; including hues of lavender, vivid fuchsia and bright white. Evening looks feature a showstopper one-shoulder jumpsuit, tie-dye lace dresses, and color infused silk charmeuse frocks. Collection includes a kaftan dress with a deeply draped back making for a sensual and elegant twist on the modern silhouette. An a-line wedding gown with pleating and a delicate tulle embroidered overlay completes the assortment, appealing to the fashion-forward future bride-to-be.
I had so much fun on set styling for Nigerian singer Omawumi's Warn Yourself" new video . Thanks to designer Bukkie of HVS for styling with me. Thanks to designers Black Bird and Fabric Twinz for allowing me pull a few pieces for the set.. This right here is my jam. I am so happy to finally share it with you guys here...Check it out and let me know what you think!!!
I think the most of us women do love and appreciate the works of Mr.Tadashi Shoji. His show has always been one of my fave shows to see every season. If you follow me on Instagram (@rosemarykokuhilwa ) then I am sure you might have already seen the video I posted straight from his runway. For Spring / Summer 2014, Shoji discovers a new confidence of dressing, one that emboldens feminine empowerment and inspires Sweet Liberation.Photo credit: Ed Kavishe/ Fashion Wire Press
The collection featutured beautiful dresses made out of delicate fabrics such as silk organza, lace, chiffon and tulle. Each piece had unique detailing to it.There were pieces with ribbon appliques, encrusted crystals, feathers, sequin trims, sequin embroidery and jewel and metal embellishment. The color palette ranged from soft (lavender, jade, ivory mixed with light pearl, lemon and pale pink) to darks. As much as I would have loved to see a little more color on this runway , I was pleased with workmanship that went into creating each piece. I can see some of these pieces being worn to the Grammys or Oscars especially the three looks above. What do you think of Tadashi Shoji SS2014??
Below are images that I took from where I was seated
My Third show of the day was BCBG MaxAzria Spring/Summer 2014 at the Theater. BCBG always brings a full house. The latest collection is all about fresh and cool energy as seen on the color palette and fabric choices. The designer still remains true to himself by presenting BCBG MaxAzria traditional silhouettes that he is so well known for. Light weight fabrics mostly cotton and chambray, water color mixed prints with accented neutrals colors of whites and blacks were all presented.
Models walked down the runway carrying structured clutches and open-toe booties, which is another reason why we love BCBG MaxAzria. Above looks caught my attention, def seeing my self wering them. Surprisingly, the crop top made a come back. I know it was day 1 of fashion week, too early to predict but does this mean the crop top might make a come back next Spring/Summer??
My second show of the day was a presentation by David Tlale from South Africa who was returning solo for the 3rd time at Lincoln center. I am sure by now you know/heard about all the DRAMA that went down between Tlale and the PR Guru, Kelly Cutrone of People's Revolution. Some of us knew about it on Thursday when our inbox got an alert email from Cutrone stating that she was cancelling the designer's presentation which was schedule to take place on Thursday morning at the Box. All I can say is I was a bit disappointed at People's Revoulution for treating the designer the way they did by airing out why they were cancelling the show. It wasn't nice a email .
But despite all crazyness, I am glad that the show went on Thurday morning as planned without People's Revolution though the turn out wasn't as great as in the past ..... thanks to Miss Cutrone. There are rumors that this whole drama was a puplicity stunt for Tlale which I doubt it considering the designer has a very reputable name in the industry. Why would he want to have such publicity??I still don't believe it.

For Spring Summer 2014, Tlale's latest collection "The A-lister" did not disappoint. Sheer fabrics encrusted with clusters of beads, silk organza and chiffon, sequin, geometric prints and leather were all presented. There were a few looks that I loved from this collection. The sequin enctrusted long skirt was on top of my list. I can see myself wearing it with a simple white t-shirt. The sheer silk organza blouses were so perfect and eye catching. And then there were a few red carpet numbers, like the gown above which had a little bit of drama going on. I can see some of the pieces on the A-Listers during Award season
New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday at Lincoln center and Milk Studio. I had a full "action-packed "day, from moving around between shows at the tents and off sites shows, to sourcing materials for today's fitting. Thank God to my fashionable friend designer Prajje who has been my partner in Fashion for the past 5 years for kicking it with me yesterday. The day/ season started with Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2014 which is an early show followed by BCBG MaxAzria. In between Nicholas K and BCBG I stopped by David Tlale at the Box for his latest collection(Review to follow)

For Spring/Summer 2014, design duo, Nicholas K stayed true to themselves with the use of draping and layering. The latest collection had tribal feel to it featuring tribal prints and pieces like feathers, head wraps, braids , oversized metal cuffs used to style up the collection. There were also lots of "casual cool" separates, so perfect for the coollest fashionista on the block. We saw cardigans, leather jackets, t-shirts, light weight knits, and shorts just to mention a few. Do you like Nicholas K latest collection??
