Growing up I remember the days when the supermodel was seen as some sort of super human being. They had unattainable beauty, celebrity status, and anyone even those who weren't interested in fashion could name the top girls and the labels they generally represented. Today I'm slightly more fashion conscious and aware that these "supermodels" aren't the only models to exist, but simply the ladies at the top of their game. Hundreds of girls walk the runways to get recognized for the few print and campaign jobs out there, and while many come and go there are always a few stand out stars. Many argue that the era of the supermodel is history, but I believe that while the numbers and variables might have changed the presence of the supermodel is still very much alive today. Social media arenas like Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and various blog sites definitely play a part in mainstreaming these girls, bringing their presence to those outside of the fashion industry.
What is your take on the status of the Supermodel? Do they still exist? Who do you think is worthy of that title in the industry today? Leave a comment or find me on twitter @daniellefaithe and let me know what you think, I'm definitely going to follow up on this once I get everyone's opinion!
